EMPLOYER FAQ

Q: I posted an open position, but when I search for it, it isn't returned in the results. Where is it?

A: Job postings will not appear on the site for 24 to 72 hours. If after that time you still can't find your job posting, please let us know.

Q: How long will a job stay on the Career Center?

A: All jobs remain on the Career Center for 120 days. You may choose to keep a job active or inactive during that time. After 120 days, the job will be deleted from the database, but you may choose to repost it as a new job.

Q: Why do I have to repost my position after 120 days to keep it active? Can I refresh the position?

A: Unfortunately, no. One reason the Career Center is so popular among career seekers is that the jobs posted are extremely current and relevant to what they are looking for. In an attempt to keep the content as fresh as possible, we have a 120 day limit on all postings.

Q: How many positions can my company post?

A: There is a limit of 25 active jobs at any given time for PTC member companies. Please contact the Council if you would like to increase the number of jobs your company is permitted to post.

Q: How can one of my company's open positions be chosen as a Hot Job?

A: Hot Jobs are highlighted on the Career Center for one week. The cost to activate an opening as a Hot Job is $100. Staffing agencies or recruiters are welcome to submit a Hot Job, but the name of the company they are recruiting for must be available to the job seeker. To submit a position for consideration, contact the Career Center team. Be sure to include the name of your company and the position you would like to classify as a Hot Job.

Q: My company is looking for an intern. Can the Council help?

A: By choosing to hire an intern you are offering a student meaningful experience in his or her chosen field. In return, you will find an enthusiastic, entry-level employee. Summer internships are a great way to promote the many exciting career opportunities in the Pittsburgh region. Read about the Council's Internship Services, or search online for internship candidates.

Q: Why do I have to request the release of a resume?

A: The anonymity feature is just one of the reasons our resume database is so popular with career seekers. This feature assures career seekers that they will not be placed in a potentially embarrassing situation with their current employer. It also gives job seekers control over who their resumes are released to.

Q: Do I have to be a member of Council to access the resumes in the Career Center?

A: Yes. The online resume bank is a service exclusively offered to our member companies. If you are not a Council member, please read about the benefits of membership. To become a member, please contact us.

Q: I can't seem to find resumes that match my criteria.

A: To see fewer resumes at a time, use keywords that identify a particular skill or computer topic that you would like the ideal job seeker to have. Examples: Linux, Perl. To see more resumes at a time, use few or no keywords.

Q: Our company has positions available in other locations. Can I post them on the Career Center?

A:Unfortunately, no. The purpose of the Pittsburgh Technology Council's Career Center is to help attract and retain talented, energetic people to work in southwestern Pennsylvania. Even though filling positions in other parts of the country may help a company grow here, it goes against our mission to bring workers to this area. There are many other outstanding resources for companies to fill positions outside of the region.
