From Pittsburgh to Africa: Changing Lives with Technology

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Location: Pittsburgh Technology Council, 15 Minutes Gallery, 2000 Technology Drive, 15219
Three years ago, Infinite Family launched an international program to connect mentors around the world with southern African children challenged by HIV/AIDS and poverty. Since that time, Infinite Family has grown exponentially from just a few dedicated Pittsburghers and now has video mentors in 20 states and 4 different countries. Thanks to corporate technology support from companies including Bombardier and Mullen in Pittsburgh, Logitech & Sennheiser in the US and Internet Solutions, IBM & Dial-a-Nerd in South Africa, video mentors are able spend 30 minutes each week face-to-face having meaningful video conversations that enhance the life and life skills of southern African children growing up in desperate circumstances.

In 2010, Infinite Family’s goal is to connect 300 additional southern African children growing up alone with caring video mentors throughout the world. In order to reach this goal, Infinite Family needs your help! Join us to learn more about how you can become a mentor, help the organization forge crucial capacity-building partnerships with corporations and help raise money to support the growth of the mission. Now is your chance to help support millions of children growing up without a caring adult to guide them.

NOTE: This event features the 15 Minutes Gallery opening of A Tradition of Innovation, featuring work from six AAP artists whose art demonstrates the characteristic of innovation -- a force that has been a creative tradition in our region throughout the last century.
