Using Council’s Conference Rooms Helps Start-up Save Money

Motionplan, Inc.

As the firm grew, they turned to the Pittsburgh Technology Council for affordable healthcare insurance, job posting and other services.

Motionplan, Inc. designs custom training that simulates business environments, systems, and situations to successfully empower users through instructionally sound training strategies.

Challenge

It’s a common problem any start-up faces – how can you appear professional when you work out of your home? When Tony Joseph and James Feniello started Motionplan, Inc. in 2001, the two were committed to starting this custom training company without any venture capital funds. Using coffee shops as offices worked at first. Eventually though, they needed a conference room and other types of infrastructure. They also knew tapping into the brainpower of other entrepreneurs would accelerate their growth.

Solution

Once Motionplan joined the Council, they had access to a conference room to use for client meetings plus they could attend programs and networking events. As the firm grew, they turned to the Pittsburgh Technology Council for affordable healthcare insurance, job posting and other services.

Results

Four years of utilizing the Council’s conference room saved Motionplan an incredible amount of money. And, the clients they landed via the Council’s networking events helped the company expand. Evidently the insights and advice they got from attending Council sponsored seminars taught the partners some valuable lessons. They have repeatedly been named one of the region’s “Best Places to Work” by the Pittsburgh Business Times and Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Three times they’ve been named to the Council’s list of Top 50 Tech Companies (2005, 2006, 2007) and in 2007 they also came in 18th on Pittsburgh Business Times list of Pittsburgh’s 100 Fastest Growing Companies.
