Plextronics Takes Advantage of Government Relations, Health Insurance and Recruitment Assistance from Council

Plextronics is an international solar and lighting technology company that specializes in printed electronics. The company develops conductive polymer inks, Plexcore®, that will enable the commercialization of printed electronic devices.

Challenge

Doubling your size within two years can be good for long-term strategic goals but it can also create other problems. For example, where do you find affordable health insurance for your employees? Plextronics expects their growth to continue – it’s anticipated that they will triple in size within the next three years – and they wanted to avoid spending thousands of dollars with search firms. In addition, this company was looking for ways to approach legislators regarding the research and development tax.

Solution

Plextronics saved money by obtaining health benefits through the Council and posting jobs in the Career Center. They also worked with the Council’s vice president of government relations, Brian Kennedy.

Results

Plextronics has had much success with the response to the jobs they’ve posted through the Tech Council. Since they anticipate that the vast majority of their new hires will be for their headquarters here in Pittsburgh, this resource will continue to be important. Working with Brian Kennedy enabled Plextronics to help shape policy in Washington, D.C. and Harrisburg regarding R&D tax benefits. In addition, Plextronics has received positive exposure by presenting at Council events, winning the Tech 50 award and being written about in TEQ, The Pittsburgh Technology Council’s publication.
