Tech Council Offers Platform to Establish Credentials

Summa

Establishing a presence locally, would require elevating Summa's visibility and involvement in local organizations and activities – a role that the Pittsburgh Technology Council helped to fill.

Since 1996, Summa has been providing high-impact IT consulting services and customized, commercial-grade software development for companies of all sizes, from regional businesses to Global 2000 firms. By leveraging the best combination of people, process and technology, Summa collaborates with their customers to evaluate and implement IT modernization strategies to better meet business objectives.

Challenge

In the late 1990s, building business in IT couldn’t have been easier. Then the bubble burst and the shakeout began. As a national provider of IT services, Summa faced the same level of intense market scrutiny and the same need to decide on its future strategic survival in a much more competitive and unforgiving competitive landscape.

Solution

Summa made the strategic decision to focus its efforts on building long-term client relationships in its home region of Pittsburgh. Establishing a presence locally, however, would require elevating its visibility and involvement in local organizations and activities – a role that the Pittsburgh Technology Council helped to fill. Summa became a prime sponsor of Pitt JUG, a regional association of Java users, as well as a sponsor of the IS Peer Network and the annual CIO of the Year Awards.

Results

Through its sponsorship of Tech Council programs and its active participation in many others, Summa has been able to establish and cement its presence in the regional IT marketplace as a thought leader and reliable provider of services. In one notable instance, a person who met a Summa representative at the first Pitt JUG meeting later made a referral, and a relationship began that eventually turned into the firm’s largest client for two years running.
