About Us

As a strong-voiced advocate for technology companies in southwestern Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Technology Council continuously monitors federal, state and local policies that impact the growth strategies of Council members and the region. Mobilizing the aggregate voice of approximately 1,400 member companies, the Council informs and educates policy makers on issues that are important to the region’s various technology clusters.

Member Benefits
As a member of the Pittsburgh Technology Council, your company has access to the Council’s government relations experts who can help you:

  • Increase your business' profile among elected officials
  • Identify federal and state procurement and grant opportunities that fit your needs and capabilities
  • Track legislation that could impact your specific business concerns

In short, your membership in the Council gives you the inside track on government-related activities.

A Voice for Business
Consistent with our mission, the Council has emerged as the region’s preeminent leader in driving a pro-growth, business-focused agenda in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C.

Recognizing the important role that our region’s business climate plays in the growth and attraction of information technology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing firms, the Council continues to sound a consistent message about the need for reform in our region’s outdated tax policies.

The Council’s leadership in promoting reform is needed now more than ever.  As our state and local governments struggle to adapt their spending policies to reflect the realities of the current economic conditions, many policy makers continue to promulgate shortsighted proposals that would increase the already overbearing tax burden on businesses.

In developing our position statements on various tax policies, the Council historically has adopted a position that seeks to create a tax environment that, at most, is no more obtrusive than that of competing cities and states.

Simply stated, bringing business taxes to the average level of our competitors will remove impediments to our region’s growth.

Business-2-Government Series
In partnership with Buchanan Ingersoll, the Council produces a series of events to help educate our member companies about federal and state procurement and grant opportunities.

In addition to providing detailed seminars on the ins and outs of government contracting and grants, this program also seeks to create valuable relationships between key officials from government agencies and prime government contractors.

How You Can Get Involved
Becoming involved in the Council’s public policy and advocacy activities, programs and events can help member companies reap tangible bottom-line benefits.  We encourage you to participate in formulating the Council’s public policy agenda by joining our public policy committee.

Open to all Council members, the committee gives your company a voice in key legislative and policy-making circles. In keeping with our member-driven focus, the Council often uses professional employees within our member companies to identify key issues affecting their industries and to help educate our elected officials about the real-world impact of their decisions.

Additionally, in an effort to increase the technology community’s profile and expand our range of influence, the Council strongly encourages member companies to host legislative open house events for their elected officials. Council staff members are available to help you plan and execute these events to help ensure their success.
