Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a medical condition characterized by an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health consequences.

According to a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration survey, 14.1 million adults ages 18 and older had AUD in 2019. Among youth, an estimated 414,000 adolescents ages 12–17 had AUD during this timeframe.

TechVibe Radio recaps the Allegheny Health Network/Highmark Health Care Reinvented Podcast Series, to explore the seemingly countless impacts of AUD on people’s mental/physical health, work performance and added burden to the health care system with Demetrios C. Marousis, Director of Behavioral Health at Highmark.

Learn more about AUD, how to recognize symptoms and discover several treatments to help, including Ria Health’s technology-enabled plan where patients can use on-line resources and tracking to manage recovery.
