Connected Health: It’s Time to Take Your Young Athlete’s Heart Health Seriously.

Submitted by Connected Health

Wexford, PA: Connected Health, Wexford’s Concierge Medical Practice understands the importance of heart health in athletes. Recent events in sports have reminded us that heart health is worthy of attention. Connected Health’s sports physicals routinely include heart health screening.

“We have all heard the stories – a young person collapses at practice or a game and suffers sudden cardiac arrest. It is absolutely devastating. A comprehensive sports physical may play a role in identifying heart issues early. I am so passionate about young people having extensive heart examinations as part of routine sports physicals. No young life should be lost because of an undiagnosed cardiac condition” – Betty Rich, CEO.

As parents and coaching staff prepare athletes for their sports season, Connected Health’s physician and sports health expert emphasizes the importance of heart screenings for young athletes.

“Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in the student-athlete. I strongly believe in an in-depth heart screening for all athletes beginning at age 12 before clearing them for play.”  Chris Conti, MD, Connected Health.

Dr. Conti emphasizes key things for parents to keep in mind when it comes to their child’s heart health:

  1. Take pre-participation sports physicals seriously!
  2. Advocate that coaches and training staff become CPR certified and consider getting certified yourself.
  3. Take the time to fully provide your family history as it does play a role in the health of young athletes.
