Premier Labs, an automation and physical AI venture studio building companies from inside industrial modernization cycles, today announced the formation of RAMP AI as its first operating company. The announcement coincides with Automate 2026, North America’s largest robotics and automation event, held June 22–25 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
RAMP AI is a reasoning engine for the plant floor. The system interprets the intelligence already embedded in a machine’s PLC code, alarm history, and fault records — putting the reasoning power of a seasoned engineer into plain-language root-cause guidance that any technician, on any shift, can act on. Where most industrial software reads data, RAMP AI reasons over it.
The announcement marks the first output of Premier Labs’ formation engine — a disciplined process for identifying, validating, and building industrial technology companies from inside real production environments.
“RAMP is proof that the system works,” said Joel Reed, President of Premier Labs. “We didn’t start with a product idea. We started inside facilities, listening to the people who live with these problems every day. RAMP came out of that process — and reaching a paid pilot on minimal capital is exactly the kind of capital efficiency this model is designed to produce.”
RAMP AI is the first venture out of Premier Labs, the corporate venture studio affiliated with Premier Automation, a Pittsburgh-based industrial systems integrator with three decades of operating history. Premier Labs was built on decades of experience operating inside industrial facilities — with direct visibility into operational problems, modernization budgets, and the gaps that outside software companies rarely reach.
RAMP was sourced from that vantage point. Downtime events routinely cost tens of thousands of dollars per hour. Troubleshooting knowledge is unevenly distributed — and as the experienced industrial workforce retires, the knowledge they carry is increasingly difficult to replace. The gap between the most experienced technician and the newest hire can cost hours per incident. Escalation to OEM vendors is slow. RAMP AI addresses each of these without requiring facilities to replace equipment or retrain teams from scratch.
Premier Labs operates a stage-gated formation process that moves opportunities from sourcing through customer discovery, validation, and company creation. RAMP AI is the first company to complete that journey.
Premier Labs has additional ventures in active development, including a semi-autonomous material removal system for industrial environments and an AI-driven platform for enterprise-wide controls and operations management. Neither has been formally announced.
Premier Labs is an automation and physical AI venture studio building purpose-built companies from the factory floor. Backed by a 30-year industrial platform, Premier Labs has embedded access to the production facilities, modernization cycles, and customer relationships required to validate and build technology in live production environments.
