MindShare: Helping the Tech Ecosystem Build Its Current and Future Workforces

By Jonathan Kersting

The Pittsburgh Technology Council helps on average 500 companies find top talent every year. The Tech Council is committed to finding the best technology talent from across the country through its Career Connector Job Board, out-of-town recruiting events, job fairs and custom recruiting services. Discover how the Tech Council and FortyX80 are helping members not only build their current workforce, but build the workforce of tomorrow.

Pittsburgh Career Connector

Reach a broad range of talent by taking advantage of the region’s top job posting board for job openings in your company. As a member, it is free for you to post opportunities, search our database of both active and passive job seekers, and receive alerts of new candidates that fit your specific needs. www.pghcareerconnector.com

Tech Connect

A unique way to brand your company as the employer of choice among a specialized group of professionals. Culminating in a private event, Tech Connect brings the Council’s recruiting, event planning and marketing tools together to increase a company’s exposure to targeted job seekers.

Apprenti

Apprenti bridges the gap between the untapped pool of talent and employers’ need for a highly skilled workforce. This initiative is designed to eliminate the barriers commonly faced by tech interested individuals from underrepresented groups, as well as give employers access to a wider, more diverse talent base.

As part of Apprenti’s employer driven model, we appreciate the opportunity to connect directly with employers interested in filling their open roles through our train-and-retain model of apprenticeship. We strive to build a strong, diverse pipeline of candidates interested in pursuing a career in tech at one of our innovative hiring partners in Pittsburgh.  Reach out to Tarelle Irwin at Tirwin@pghtech.org to learn more about how to leverage Apprenti in your company or organization.

STEM

When it comes to building the workforce of the future, the Tech Council and FortyX80 are rolling up their sleeves now with powerful programs that not only expose students to the potential of science, technology engineering and math, but also help them develop leadership skills. Here are three key programs making a difference now:

LAUNCH

The LAUNCH program transforms the natural curiosity of high school girls, in grades 10 and 11, into a voice of leadership in the STEM industry. Through our comprehensive program, high school girls will gain insight into their leadership style and be equipped with the confidence to pursue a successful career path in STEM. Through their engagement, our participants experience growth as leaders and exit the program prepared to create positive changes in their chosen career path.

STEM SUMMIT

End the school year with this career- and work-based learning experience in Pittsburgh’s tech and STEM industry. STEM Summit is a one-day event designed to showcase the diverse array of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math-related careers that are available in southwestern Pennsylvania.

CS Explorers

Fortyx80 has partnered with STEM Coding Lab to provide middle school students (Grades 5-8) with a FREE opportunity to learn about careers in computer science, interact with industry professionals and visit tech companies throughout Pittsburgh.

Three Rivers Education Technology Conference

Three Rivers Education Technology Conference  (TRETC) highlights best practices around the integration of educational technology into the classroom, making this the best opportunity for professional development for K-12 teachers, administrators, higher education and non-profit decision makers in the Pittsburgh region.
