Megan BakerALBANY, N.Y. The Albany Business Review (ABR) announced yesterday that Megan Baker, Founder and CEO of Baker Public Relations, is among this year’s Women Who Mean Business honorees. The recognition is part of the ABR’s Women in Leadership program and considers the impact of the honorees’ contributions to their companies, industries and the community.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition alongside other women who are trailblazers and who are positively impacting our community. I also congratulate all who have been honored before us,” said Baker.

After a successful career as a news reporter and anchor, Baker founded Baker Public Relations in 2007. What began as a solo venture quickly evolved into one of the Northeast’s most respected PR and marketing agencies. “I would not be here today without the talented Baker Public Relations team and the extraordinary clients we have had the privilege to partner with,” added Baker. “They are the ones who have put our agency on the map, and my achievement is their achievement.”

With offices in Albany, Pittsburgh and St. Petersburg, the agency serves clients nationwide across sectors including healthcare, tourism, technology, legal services, real estate, government, lifestyle, hospitality, nonprofit and education.

“Women empowering women is a much-touted phrase in today’s world. Megan stands apart from others as she is walking the talk,” said Monica Kurzejeski, Executive Director and CEO of the Albany Convention Center Authority. “Megan has endless hustle, heart and determination marked by her success as a national public relations agency. She’s one to watch as she continues to grow her firm.”

Beyond Baker’s commitment to her clients, she is equally committed to the communities where she and her employees work and live. A fundamental aspect of the agency’s core mission is to give back and empower others.

One nonprofit the Baker team supports is Building on Love, an organization that assists families with critically ill children. “We are deeply grateful for the support Megan Baker and Baker Public Relations have provided us over the years,” said Jeff Yule, Executive Director of Building on Love. “Megan’s leadership, infectious spirit and incredible talent have helped amplify our mission and give voice to the families we serve during the most difficult times in their lives.”

As a woman leader and CEO of a New York State-certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), Baker is also known for her strong commitment to mentoring and empowering women. Her video podcast, InfluenceHER™, spotlights real stories of resilient, bold women who have often overcome adversity to lead change in their fields and the lives of others.

Baker also supports the next generation of women entrepreneurs and leaders, especially in the Public Relations industry. She has established two college scholarships, one at Shaker High School and the other at Butler High (Baker’s alma mater), for female high school graduates interested in pursuing a career in communications. Additionally, Baker proudly supports the Junior Achievement of Northeastern NY Titan Program, serving as a CEO mentor to help empower the next generation.

The Women Who Mean Business award is not the first time the ABR has recognized Baker. She was previously tapped by the ABR as a “40 under 40” in 2012 and recognized in its “Power 50” list last year.

Baker has also received other awards, including being honored by Capital Region MARCOMM as the 2023 Marketing/Communications Practitioner of the Year.

Baker is one of six Capital Region women being recognized as Women Who Mean Business. All six will be honored at an ABR luncheon celebration on October 9. Their profiles will appear in ABR’s October 10 issue.
